Kith’takharos Campaign 33 and 34

Read all the Kith’takharos Campaign session recaps here.

I have combined these two game sessions into one post because, in terms of ground covered, not much occurred. That is not to say that the characters were not busy, just that it took a fair amount of time and consideration to surmount the obstacles encountered in Nhamah. The short descriptions of these events will not accurately reflect the time required.

With the “mites” defeated, the group continues exploring Nhamah. They find a large room full of water and another containing the mummified remains of a reptile as large as a horse, but no Aether Bind.

A steep ramp leads up to another level. Jory and Gabrielle begin walking up the incline while the others observe. When they reach the halfway point, the walls and floor are suddenly coated with a slippery substance, and a number of mites appear on the ceiling. The creatures attack, and Jory and Gabrielle are eventually forced to retreat. The mites disappear once they leave the incline. Negotiating the treacherous incline seems almost impossible while under constant assault.

Bron devises a clever plan. His god has been pleased with the Healer’s devotion, and has granted him a power that allows the recipient to walk upon walls and ceilings as easily as the floor. Thus prepared, the group walks across the ceiling at no disadvantage and forces their way past the mites. At the top of the incline, the mites again disappear.

Another series of corridors leads to a strong gate. As Jory approaches the gate, the floor vanishes, revealing a deep pit lined with spikes. A powerful wind blows into the pit from above, pushing Jory toward the spikes. He manages to catch himself before falling.

Gabrielle summons a construct on the other side of the gate. It bashes in the gate, which falls into the pit. However, the construct does not last for long. Next Jory climbs into the pit and laboriously breaks a path through the spikes to the fallen gate. He hesitates to climb up the gate, since it is very unstable and would be difficult to climb, especially under the strong wind.

Bron employs yet another power granted by his god. He becomes intangible and strolls through the wall to the other side of the pit. He explores the opposite corridor a short way, then returns to the pit. He manages to throw the end of a rope past the gate, where Jory grabs it and ties it around his waist. Thus braced, Gabrielle and Chayl climb up the gate while holding the rope. Jory goes last, assisted by the three who crossed before him.

The pit disappears once the group reaches the other side. So far, Nhamah has been a frustrating place of ephemeral foes. Still, the fate of all who live in the swamp depends upon them, and so the group continues.

A nearby corridor holds two closed doors. As the group approaches, one of the doors crashes across the corridor and a twenty foot long reptile emerges, obviously focused on the group and out for blood. The creature’s sinuous neck gives it a long reach, and Bron makes sure to stay out of the way. His comrades engage, Gabrielle using the last of her arcane power to summon another construct.

The battle goes poorly. Jory is almost killed, while Bron, Chayl, and Gabrielle have nearly exhausted their magical resources. Finally, Chayl puts the reptile to sleep and Bron uses Zzhastor Brune’s ring to call for an extraction.

Fortunately, Brune is not asleep or otherwise indisposed. He teleports them back to Kith’takharos Keep, and the group spends a few hours recovering.

Brune realizes that Nhamah must have magical defenses that deflected his first teleportation and shunted the group into a detention cell. With this understanding, he is able to send the group back to the exact location from which they left Nhamah. Now, fully rested and ready, they defeat the huge reptile with relative ease.

We are using Savage Worlds rules. in Savage Worlds terms, Gabrielle casts Summon Ally to generate her constructs. Bron cast Wall Walker and Intangible to create his effects. Chayl cast Slumber to put the reptile to sleep for a short time.
